Louise Young - 2 stone off
Are you unsure about joining The New Year Shred? Maybe you’ve already decided why you’re not going to do it.
Louise Young, a 43-year-old, mother-of-two was like that too. For about a year Louise kept finding reasons NOT to sign up.
Then, last July, Louise took the plunge.
Here’s Louise’s story.
“I had followed the Shred on Facebook for about a year before finally signing up.
I kept putting it off as there was always some outing or celebration and I thought I’d start after that but the weight kept creeping up.
I was going for a night out in June and couldn’t get anything to fit. I was also going on holiday in August, so I signed up for the July Shred.
I work from home and sit at a computer so I am not very active. To do 10k steps a day I did them before and after work and at lunchtime.
I had previously gone to a gym and enjoyed weights but it was the thought of actually getting out the door and going to the gym, which put me off.
I would have made excuses but with the online workouts and being able to do the Shred Sessions from home I couldn’t make excuses.
I started out with small weights but built these up. I have now converted a room in the house to a gym. I’m setting targets and progressing with the weights. I’m now able to deadlift my body weight and I bench pressed 32kg in December. I always hated the bench press. Before The Shred, I had never benched more than 20kg.
The accountability provided by the WhatsApp group was definitely a motivator, as well as the fear of a red box at weigh- in!
I started at 11st 9lb in July and I’m now 2 stone lighter. I’m almost at my target weight.
Going forward I’m less concerned about the scales and will concentrate more on building strength and getting fitter – The Shred isn’t just about losing weight, it’s also about getting fitter and stronger.
